‘Now my clog is breaking*’ is a typical dutch expression, it is said when someone is heavily surprised. One can imagine, that breaking a shoe is not very convenient. Because a pair of wooden shoes have to be warn out at the same time, the unbroken other one, is left (or right) over. And thus, since the early days of the clog, the remaining one, is nailed against the wall, where it can rest it days to host flowers.
